A practical starting example

Work toward an upload-size limit

If an upload form requires 200 KB, start from a sensible image size and inspect a quality-mode output. Target-size mode treats 200 KB as 200000 bytes; check whether the destination uses the same unit. Compare text and edges before accepting a smaller file. Read any message saying the target could not be reached.

Use this as a small trial before applying the operation to your real input. A sample illustrates the workflow; it does not promise a specific result for every source file or device.

How to use Image Compressor

  1. Prepare a copy of the input. Supported inputs: JPG, PNG, WebP input; JPG or WebP output.
  2. Choose the operation and review the controls below before running the sample.
  3. Run the tool, then inspect the new output before using it.

Prepare the input

Use the controls described in the application. Supported inputs: JPG, PNG, WebP input; JPG or WebP output.

Supported input and output scope: JPG, PNG, WebP input; JPG or WebP output

Review the available controls

Choose JPG or WebP and select quality mode or target-size mode. Quality mode uses the quality control. Target-size mode uses the target in decimal KB, and the allow-shrink option can reduce dimensions to help meet it. Review the background colour and inspect the exported dimensions as well as file size.

How to decide whether the result is useful

Start with quality mode. Target-size mode searches for a quality that fits, and can reduce dimensions when you allow it.

  • Compare the output with the unchanged source.
  • Check the destination requirement before copying, downloading or uploading it.
  • Open the downloaded file in the receiving application and check its actual type, size and contents.
  • Use a second representative sample if the first does not cover the difficult part of your input.

Limitations and troubleshooting

Compression is lossy. Target KB means 1,000 bytes per KB. If the target cannot be met, the tool reports it rather than claiming success.

If the output does not match your intention

Return to the original copy, review the selected input and controls, and repeat with a smaller sample. If the embedded view is unavailable, use the direct tool link at the top of this page. Browser support and device memory can affect file-based workflows.

Questions about this tool

What should I check first?

Start with quality mode. Target-size mode searches for a quality that fits, and can reduce dimensions when you allow it.

Can I use the tool from this guide?

The main button opens the working tool on its Tabaix subdomain. An optional embedded view may be added to this guide; the direct link remains available for larger screens, downloads or browser compatibility.

What should I keep before changing the input?

Keep an unchanged source and record any controls you chose. That gives you a comparison point and lets you repeat the task without replacing your original.
