When these tools are useful
- Generating a strong, unique password for a new account.
- Checking that a downloaded file matches its published checksum.
- Creating a QR code for a link you want to share in print.
- Inspecting what a piece of data does and does not prove.
A generated password only protects you if it is unique to that account and stored somewhere safe — a password manager is the practical answer for most people. A checksum match proves a file matches the value you were given; it does not prove the source itself was honest, so get checksums from the same trusted place as the file. Treat anything you generate for security as sensitive from the moment it exists.
